I just picked up a bunch of super hair to start tying some larger streamer and such. From what I've seen it looks like super hair and epoxy always go together. Does anyone have some good techniques for tying with super hair?

I use lots of super hair for saltwater patterns, and sometimes 5 minute epoxy depending on pattern. I generally use mono instead of tying thread, also pattern/size dependant.

No tricks really

I'll have try to mono, I was just having trouble getting the tall body that a lot of saltwater flies have. I think I just needed more layers on the shank of the hook.

For taller and flatter bodies, tie in a series of smaller bundles of hair one on top of the other. A single large bundle will simply roll around the hook shank and not stack up. Good luck, 1Minute

You ever cast a fly for kings in the ocean? (not near a river or hatchery) I'm curious if anybody has got catching kings on flies in the salt figured out.

I've a good friend from work that will be coming up from WA who has been fishing saltwater kings on the fly for a couple of years. Seems to have the system figured out pretty well, it will be interesting to see if his method fits with our local waters though.

I think if someone could tie up a good squid pattern, they might find some bigger kings near some kelp. I've found a few bigger kings to be packed with them when I caught them near kelp.

I was all ready to hit the water today for a dipsy diver bonanza, but forgot I had obligations. A few kings roaming around at the typical local spots. I'll be out tomorrow afternoon though. A friend caught a 217 halibut last weekend while red snapper fishing.

I'm in the middle of figuring out a good articulated squid pattern for kings. It looks good but that doesn't mean the kings will like it.

cool, post a pic when you get it figured out. I saw that berkley gulp has a plastic squid. I want to rig it bass style and flip it right in the middle of the thickest kelp for monster kings. I think that's where the grand daddies lurk. We'll see...

Got pics of the real squid your trying to imitate, the fishkilla code prevents me from declining a flytying challenge.

I'm trying to keep the squid between 4 and 6 inches. but I think Kings go for much larger bait. Two years ago while trolling for kings i spotted a squid near the surface. When I pull along side the squid and dipnet it all it's tentacles were bitten off by salmon. It was still about 14 inches without legs.

There's nothing else going on in the Flyfishing section, might as well catch up on this thread...
