If you could get either, which would it be?
I'm buying one or the other soon. I like the CM and have factory ammo for it. Not set up to reload.
I don't have and never have had a 7-08, but do have a variety of 7mm bullets since I have a .280 and a 7x57 and load for both.

6.5 CM is EASY! Get a box or case of the 143 ELD X or 147 ELD M's as loaded by Hornady and just have some fun... It is a hard cartridge to not love for sheer shooting and you won't go broke buying a couple boxes of ammo.

Fond as I am of the 7-08, if you have a 7x57 and a .280 already, it would be redundant twice over. Any reason you could not drop all the way down to 6 Creed?

I have them both, I like them both but there is really not an performance advantage of one over the other. In my part of the world, loaded ammo for the 6.5 Creedmoor is much more available so that would be my choice.

Would like scope and rifle to be under $1K if possible. 6xMQ is #1 on the list so far for glass

Under 300 yards, I don't think it makes a red CH's worth of difference.

Yeah, little difference.
But if I had to buy factory ammo, would go Creed, just because with all the focus, you may get better overall performance.
Probably easier to sell if you change yer mind, Tom...

Nothing wrong with that if it's what you want. In your shoes I'd probably get the 6.5 CM - or as someone else suggested, a 6mm CM. In my case I reload for 7mmRM and .280 Rem, among others, and went with a .243 Win instead of a 7mm-08. Gentle, accurate shooter for the girls and myself, plenty of fun and antelope hate it.

No need to go with the inferior chambering even though you have an abundance of 7mm’s. Take the 7mm-08 all day and twice on Sundays.
