I just had a rifle built in 270 IHMSA and I'm looking for reloading data. I have a Hodgdon manual from 1992 showing loads with only Hodgdon powders. Wondering if there are any other loads out there using other powders? I see in the Nosler manual that data using H4350 with a 130 grain bullet for the 6.5 Creedmoor is the same as the data for the 270 IHMSA with a 130 grain bullet listed in my Hodgdon manual. I'm thinking that the starting loads for the 6.5 would be a good place to start from. Maybe 34-35 grains of Varget with a 130 grain bullet would get me heading down the right road.

Thanks

Dare I ask why the interesting choice of cartridge?

1992 H4350 is not the same as today's H4350, so be careful there.

Compare the cartridge drawings and do a little figuring to compare their capacities. If they are pretty close then since the 270 has a bigger bore it should digest a little more powder.

I have always wanted to get a rifle in every caliber from 22 to 40. I like wildcat cartridges and I did not have a 27 caliber rifle. I am now only missing the .338, .348, .366 (9.3mm) and the .375. I likely won't ever get a .348 but I think the rest are doable.

I loaded and tested some rounds loaded with 42.5 grains of H4350 with a 100 grain Hornady FBSP. They grouped up at about 3/4" but I would like to try some 130's.

The biggest difference between the Creedmoor and the IHMSA is in the shoulder diameter. The Creedmoor is .15 larger. I reformed 243 Win cases into the IHMSA cases and the H20 capacity is 42.5 grains to the junction of the neck and the shoulder. I haven't check what it is completely filled to the mouth. I don't know the capacity of the Creedmoor filled to the junction of the neck and the shoulder; I don't think it could be a lot more. But since I don't have a Creedmoor I'm left holding the bag.
