Anyone out there ever refinish a new stock on a BLR so it wasn`t so glossy ? anyone have a easy solution ? or do I need to take this new BLR apart and zip strip this rifle ?

Seem to recall folks rubbing it out with a rottenstone compound to knock the gloss down.

thanks I will look into that thought, I also thought maybe fine steel wool then Flitz compound then stock polish ?

Gel paint remover will take that off, along with a good bit of scraping. Since I started smearing them with paste wax, I've lost enthusiasm for the work.

I did one, the finish is hard and no fun to strip, others say it's not so bad. I have a friend who stripped, recut the checkering by hand and hand rubbed oil, look awesome, better than awesome. Well worth the money, he just does a little side work now and don't pass his name out, sorry.

Too bad they don't offer it in the oil rub finish they did the BAR's a few years ago.

I put a true oil fine on mine. any stripping gell will do. scrap with a piece of glass steel wool and little sanding. Looks good
