Rental car from Charlotte and going to set foot in Florida. Traveling the 31st and the 1st. Unlimited mileage. Here's your chance to tell me where to go! Prefer rural stuff. Would like to dip in the Atlantic. Scenic down, blast back?

I-77 to I-95 and keep rollin' down to Daytona or Cocoa Beach. Water is going to be a bit chilly this time of year. Beaches will be somewhat empty, but the coastal communities are densely populated. Maybe a tour of Cape Kennedy if inclined. Best rural scenery is to be found north of Orlando up to the Ga. border in the middle of the state. Springs are a nice visit, there be a bunch to choose from. Communities along the Suwanee River are small and pleasant and that would be where a lot of springs are found, and it puts you in fairly close proximity to I-75.

I am..........disturbed.

I-95 South is a parking lot this time of year.
Might take 2 days to get to Fla.
Check out the old Woodpecker Trail thru Ga
I85 south to SC line turn South on Ga 77 to Ga 17 then follow the old trail.
You will get to know some of the finest small town officers
if you are in a hurry.
I 95 back should be OK
PM if I can help

You might want I-26 from I- 77 in Colombia. (77 ends there)

85 and 75 would be great choices if you want to see more real estate on the way. (It's way farther)

Great help guys. Please keep it coming. I think I will just hit The Castillo de San Marcos, open or not. Will study maps between now and then. Sure don't need extra amounts of traffic to entertain me....

east of Fargo. Deserves to be seen.

Check out Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island while you're there. Maybe stop in Savannah GA, Beaufort, SC, and see MCRD Parris Island, SC while you're there. That's a pretty good drive for one day down & one back though, it won't leave a lot of time for sightseeing.

Guys, again a huge thanks! I have been looking at the endless options for a guy that ain't been south of Columbus SC, Atlanta, Tupelo, Little Rock! One thing is for sure, won't see it all in 2 days... Looking to cross Florida off the list, then hope someday Louisiana, VT, RI, ME, DE, MA, and HI. Normal two days involves 22 hours driving. We'll see. LOL

44mc - I would dig that. I don't want to intrude on the holiday though.

That along with St Augustine....

When I've spent time in that area, I also love to do as much as the old A1A as I can...
ya know, the title on Jimmy Buffet's first album... its the real old original Florida coastal route..

Last I was down that way, it still is a glimpse in time to what old Florida use to be...
before all the Northeast Liberals moved south in droves to retire down there.

Rural route down --- I-77S to Columbia SC, I-26E to Organgeburg SC, Hwy 301S to FL, A1A off 301 to Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island.

Depending on traffic fastest way back from Fernandina/Amelia Island -- I-95N to I-26W to I-77N to Billy Graham Parkway to Charlotte Doulgas Airport
