Easy to see we're suckers for a better mousetrap and 10 cent cigars...

There'd be a hell of a lot of powders, primers and bullets that we don't have and that would suck big time.

We would also still have the 30 and 35 Newton’s which are dangerously the same case as the PRC, 375 Ruger, etc so I don’t believe we’d be too limited...

If you look in my safe, you would assume it had. Oh, except for Mrs Blacktailer's 308.

Late antlerless season starts January 1st. Have two rifles out for that, 6.5x54 MS and a single shot in 7x57R. Nope, I wouldn't see a problem... smile

Figured 1925 was the right year for a cut off. The year that gave us the .270 WCF and the .300 H&H. What more could a reasonable person ask for?

Sporting use and success wouldn't be much different. But military & competition would be totally different.

You could have cut it off at 1895 and I'd be fine with that. I got by for years with just a .22LR, .30-30 and 12 gauge and could do it again without it causing me undue problems or heartache. My freezer would still be full of venison, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, grouse and ducks every year. I'd probably add a .25-20 to replace my .22 mag. for varmints/predators and that'd about cover it for me.

Better primers. The only cartridges I have that were developed after that are the 308, 223, and 444 Marlin. I could get by without those.

The 300 H&H was superfluous when it arrived. The 30 Newton was a better cartridge and actually would fit into a Model 54 Winchester or a Springfield which the 300 would not. After 1925, there were a couple of major cartridge developements which changed things quite a bit. One was the 222 Remington (which, of course, led to the 223) and the other was the 458 Winchester (which made a commonly available African DGR a reality). Apart from those, everything had been covered pretty well. GD

Own both. Could hunt for the rest of my life with either one and not skip a beat...

If cartridge development suddenly stopped in late 1911, all my shooting needs today would've been fully satisfied:

22 LR, 38 special, 30-30, 30-06, 45 acp
