Been talking to a well known smith about a 6.5 build.

Want an all around hunting rifle that shoots lights out. .5 MOA rifle.

Trying to figure out right stock - been looking at sako classic or one of the manners EH stocks - like a 6-8.

Prob a 2 or 3 contour barrel.

What was interesting was his assumption that I wanted a DBM vs bottom metal. When I said I wanted a trimmer rifle with bottom metal, he came back and said that the sharper shoulder angle of the creed and similar cartridges made feeding difficult with BDL/hinged floorplate. Said it will jump or pop away from the feed lips.

Any of you heard of this dynamic? He suggested a round that was more tapered, like a .260, would be better.

Thoughts?

I have 2 ackleys with 40 degree shoulders and two creedmoors with 30 degree shoulders, hasn't been and issue with mine. 2 are rem 700's and 2 are Rugers all with factory bottom metal/followers

If you in possession of the donor rifle, you could source a couple of rounds of 6.5 creedmoor and test for yourself.

I have 13 rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor that are built on Howa, Marlin, Mossberg, Remington, Ruger, Savage, and Weatherby actions. They all feed reliably, no popping or jumping that I've seen.

I have had feeding issues with the 40-degree shoulder 250AI and 257AI in some actions.
