Working up specs for a 9.3x62 build. Want a trim, lighter weight, well handling, rifle that balances between the hands.
I've got a BRNO 21 that had some work done by Ralf Martini, could be a good starting point. But given this is going to be a full custom with wood stock, don't want just use that because I already have it.
Want a mauser action and have been wondering if some of the modern mauser actions would be a better choice? Eg GMA, FZH, Prechtl
Thoughts?

Like my FN Commercial based 9.3x62. However weight was never an issue on this build and still isn't. Had I not had the Mauser a pre 64 model 70 would have been found for the project.

I would go Mauser 98 or clone. I have a CZ 550 that fits the bill. Nothing wrong with the Pre-64 Model 70 either.

See if you can find a Husqvarna 640 or better yet a 146 in 9,3x57.. ream it out to a 9,3x62. Here is a nice examples of the 146:

I would rate the "custom" M98 Harman & Weiss Prechtl FZH GMA Vector And actual Mauser?
Then: Oberndorf with integral square bridges BRNO ZG-47 BRNO 21

The pre-64 M70 action set in a D'Arcy Echols Legend stock is quite functional, lightweight, and accurate. With a VX3 1.75-6x32 set in Leupold QR rings and bases, 24" #3 Pacnor barrel it weighs 8.25 lbs as seen here. With 250 Accubonds and Varget it would hold sub 1/2 moa, 3-shot groups. Redneck, here on the CF did the metal work and Charley Santoni finished the rifle.

Mine is a Pacnor 3 also. Very accurate. Pay attention to the throat as mine had to be lengthened after original was way too short.

Several good things said about the Dumoulin Mauser 98 Action (Belgian Made 0.473" bolt) through SARCO. For $400 I can't see how you could go wrong and it is available according to the site. Read comments and the negative is scope mount screws, mounts and rings, which appear to be pretty expensive to outfit. Best of luck with your build.

I would be inclined to keep the 21 for a lighter cartridge and source a ZG47 for the 9.3, allows you to swap mounts and scopes between the two, and if you ever want something heavier then it wouldn't be much to go 375 Ruger on the next go around.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Redneck, here on the CF did the metal work and Charley Santoni finished the rifle. I've always admired that rifle. It's one of the reasons I wanted to have a 9.3x62mm. Now, the title of the thread is "best action for 9.3x62". I believe that is very subjective, as best for me or you may not be best for someone else. Having grown up with m1917 based sporters, I feel a re-bored 30-06 sporter m1917 would be best for my needs. There are a myriad of 98 mauser derived rifles out there that would work great for a 9.3 build as well. "Best", quite frankly, is a word best left out of a thread like this...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

You mentioned some nice actions already but I would not sneer at a Zastava action that once tuned up would make into a very nice rifle. The Doumolin action is a bargain too. But if going full out then a custom double square bridge Mauser would my choice if I had the budget. Mayfair Engineering makes a nice one https://mayfairengineering.com/.There are others too like the Satterllee and Granite Mountain for a custom 98.

Ive got a Husky 640 I was going to use for the exact same thing. It is one shock action, but I think im leaning towards my 1909 or Doumolin.

Northman, Do you feel all the modern 98's better than the ZG-47 and M21? If you spend a bit of money polishing up the ZG-47 I don´t see the need for the Customs. But, Oh boy I wanted them though! I think I have purchased 4 or 5 ZG-47 for the cost of one custom action. In my eyes there are no better commercial made M98, then the ZG-47, expect the very rare Oberndorf square brigde actions. The 21 is a very nice model and better finished.. but lacks the features that makes the 47 a truly outstanding hunting rifle. I seem to remember the Dumolin is made in China? ( Was a lot of talk about that a few years ago ) It might stack up metallurgical, but with the cheap, abundant and very high quality Husqvarna 640 and 140s.. I would purchase these any day over the Dumolin.. they where finished to high standards in the 30s-50s when labour was cheap and highly trained. Zastava makes their actions on the same machines that the Husqvarna 640 where made on.. or any other FN M98.. Zastava bought the machines from FN years ago.. so a few hours with file and polishing the right parts and it will give good results. Mayfair Engineering is a hybrid.. the body is M98 while the bolt is part Win 70..look closely at the front and lugs.

I’ve seen those rifles on the nitro express forum. Top one is a full custom job by Ola Nyhuus. Bottom one is more stock, but has had some work done by Nyhuus.
Top rifle is one of my favorites.
