Anyone ever decoy, flag or call antelope? Many mixed reviews. Who's done it and how'd it work? Thanks

Seriously... the bucks are very territorial in the rut... wear a white shirt and they'll come right in thinking you're another antelope...

Correct, bucks are very territorial during the rut. Get close enough to threaten them/harem, and make them think you are a challenger and they will come.
Lots of variations on how to make a herd buck think you are a challenger. Decoys, hats, white flag, calls etc.

I did it once, by accident. Buck was at 800 yards and saw me peeking over the hilltop at him. He came walking in on a straight line, I shot him at 60.

I saw a video on youtube where the shooter and the guide walked along with horses, and got right up to within bow range of a buck antelope and killed it at 40 yds. The guy said he does it every year.

Last fall, I stalked a herd of antelope with a decent buck that were a half mile or so away, trying to get a better look at the buck and get into position for a shot. As I approached the crest of the last hill between us, they spotted me, and began to walk towards me. They came all the way to around 50 yards, and just stood and stared, for minutes. I decided not to shoot the buck, he was a bit too small, but curiosity definitely caused them to approach.

Wow pretty cool. I agree about sitting on a waterhole... Looks like I'll have to borrow a horse or 2. Grin

Use a buck decoy. It works.

Judman, Any cows in the area you plan on hunting - if so you could try one of those Montana cow decoys. Not sure it should be called a decoy more like using a horse as a shield I guess. I have one you are welcome to borrow if you like, I've played around with it a bit on a couple hunts when there have been cows around and you can get pretty close sometimes, other times the antelope figured out I was a funky cow and didn't like it much

I made my brother a cow decoy for his Colorado muzzle loader antelope tag. I used one of those fold up window shades for your car and painted it black. Made a cow head out of some foam core. My wife thought I was nuts, but it worked. He moved in on a bedded buck and shot the thing at 80 yds.

My sons and I used this homemade cardboard decoy to close well over a 1/2 mile on the buck I shot this year. I held it out in front of us, and we walked right at the buck... he watched us the whole time and never took a step. Some cows came down off the hill and made him nervous, so I shot him at 400 yards... but I bet we could have gotten a lot closer without spooking him.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
