I have a virgin, unmolested Brown Precision Fiberglass Alaskan Blank Stock. It was made for a 375 H&H M70 with 2 pc bottom metal. I would like to have the bottom inletted for 1 pc bottom metal and the barrel channel filled to fit a sporter profile.

Can this be done? It almost looks like the original inlet was molded in, not machined, so I am not sure if modifying it is an option. I could go blind on it, which wouldn't bother me.

For filling the barrel channel, what would be the lightest way to go? I don't want something that is going to chip out, but I don't want it to way a ton either. Fill it with micro balloons and chopped glass?

Is this all a waste and should I just sell it and find something that is already made for my rifle?

Thanks

You pretty much answered your own questions. Yes to molding in a one piece. Yes to micro balloons. I have used ground cork as a filler with micro balloons and then did conventional hard bedding over this. If it is a big gap you can use a sheet of foam as a light filler, just make sure the foam is epoxy compatible. On soft stocks I have also added carbon cloth to the barrel channel as a stiffener and filler in one. This bedded in with micro ballons added very little weight and did improve the rigidity of the stock.

So it sounds like the bottom metal is the biggest issue then. If that turns out to be a non-starter, what is the value of a Brown Blank? Their price list is 2016...

It’s all a waste. You should just sell it to me.

Post 64, No pad, paint or filler. It is right out of the mold. Weighs 1lb 8 oz. Has the relief for the barrel mounted recoil lug.

Has not been cut for length of pull either...as it sits you could get 14"+ with a Decelerator.

Sell it and start over. You might see if Brown will trade it back in against a new stock.

That's kinda what I was thinking.
