I’ve shipped several for around $38 but USPS just raised rates too. From my experience, Dimension and weight can be bigger factors than the distance.

I use FedEx. Just shipped a gun (rifle) from WV to California with $900 insurance. Cost me $26 and some change. I have filed two claims and they payed for both. I have had zero problems. If you ship ammo they are quite expensive.

$38 via FedEx Ground if your package is 48" long or less. $58 or so if it's longer. Both of these are with $600-700 insurance. Home Delivery is a little more expensive than Ground to a business.

Fedex, UPS, and USPS all have the cost to ship info on their websites. All you have to do is enter the relevant information and you will know what it will cost.
My best experiences (fastest and cheapest) have been with USPS. Regardless of the bad-mouthing they receive their shipping has always worked best for me.

Go to Pirateship.com. It offers discounted shipping through the post office. They also offer insurance considerably cheaper than the post office. Simple to use.

Shipping insurance is a complete nightmare! Ask me how I know.😡
It truly is a rip-off even when you get it and have all sort of documentation to back you up. They break it and then they don’t want to reimburse you!
I had this happen on a very nice Winchester FWT stock. I obviously made it right by the buyer. Then I had a nightmare with the insurance after they broke the stock before it arrived.

Thousands of videos on utube on how to wrap to survive just about any kind of treatment short of a nuclear blast. Watch them, several times.

Normally $25 to $45 or so in my experience. Just a long box....no hard case. I've shipped a ton of rifles lately and use UPS 99% of time and enter the discount code "EASY" on the website. I always insure for full value and require proof of delivery and adult signature.
I have shipped a few rifles via USPS to Alaska and break them down and ship them in a McMillan stock box or the like.

I use these guys, multiple times, with complete satisfaction. I recently sold a $6000 rifle that was shipped with them. Great pricing, they send a shipping label, I throw it on the box and drop it off at my local FedEx Store. https://www.shipmygun.com/go/

It does vary, shipping via my FFl about $35. Shipped a Model 70 via FEDEX with $2500 insurance across the country and it was $90.
