Colt diamondback, or Trooper MKIII or MKIV, Smith 17/617.

The finest 22 LR revolver ever is made by Freedom Arms. They are the most accurate revolvers made. Ours pictured here will routinely shoot 5-shot groups around 1/2" @ 50 yards. We have or had Smiths, Dan Wessons, and Rugers all of which are nice revolvers but none I have seen that would shoot with the FA.

Even though I do not own one.....S&W K-22. memtb

the m18 gets my vote with the m17 a close second.

My 22/32 I Frame Smith is put together extremely well and very accurate. I own a first year M63 and a nice M34 and they aren't even close.

Not much will run with a FA. They're in a class by themselves.

That one looks like it would be pretty heavy.

Were any revolvers ever used in Olympic competition?

It made me super accurate but in my opinion that pistol is maybe one step above a Glock look wise. Not a good looking revolver.

I don't think so, never saw them using any.

A. P. Lane used a Colt to win 5 gold metals in 1912 and 1920. I am sure there were others Most likely Colt or S&W.

I have an 8 3/8" K-22 which is nice.

My favorite and most accurate .22LR revolver is my '30's vintage Colt Officers Model Target, 6", near mint. It has the same lock work and action of the Python. Pre-war, it's about the smoothest revolver I have, maybe slicker than my Python.

OMT accuracy will probably edge the K-22, action is slicker for sure. Pythons are great, but it's hard to beat pre-war fitting and craftsmanship.

Both are keepers. I already gave the Python to my son. It's near mint, had gotten it from an Army buddy in the early '70's. Paid $185. When it got to $1,500 or so, I thought about trading it. My son let me know it was about his favorite of my guns, so I gave it to him. He gets them all someday, anyway. Well, that gun is now selling for around $3,500+. Glad he talked me into keeping it.

I got the OMT at a gun show for $400 a number of years ago. They're now selling for a lot more than that, when you can find one.

In my lengthening lifetime. I have owned three M-17’s of which two were pinned and recessed. If not the best ever, they are at least the best I have ever owned. All three are no longer mine, sadly!

Colt also made a single shot competition 22 on a revolver frame, it was called the Camp Perry. Had a chance to buy one years ago and passed. Still kick myself on that.

Flip a coin between the K-22 and the Colt Officer's Model Match and either way the coin bounces you come up a winner (both harking from the era of factory hand fitting). Having owned several specimens of both I would be hard pressed to decide on which is the better gun. Ergonomically I lean toward the Colt, for carry as well as shooting I would go with the Smith. If you put a gun to my head I would probably opt for the Colt.

Don't forget to add the colt police positive target to that list.

Having owned that one too I will concur as to its candidacy for the title, but for pure target shooting ergonomics I feel the OMM holds better cards.

Officers model targets had 200 plus visual and micrometer checks. A whole lot of silky smooth action going on.
