Actually I'm looking for a 17 Masterpiece right now, man are they expensive!! Yep, no "bargains" out there as far as I can see. You pay for that level of quality. DF

The finest 22 LR revolver ever is made by Freedom Arms. They are the most accurate revolvers made. Ours pictured here will routinely shoot 5-shot groups around 1/2" @ 50 yards. We have or had Smiths, Dan Wessons, and Rugers all of which are nice revolvers but none I have seen that would shoot with the FA. Don’t forget Korth........ Never saw a Korth .22LR. Did they make them? DF

For my needs the S&W model 63 is my number one! Compact, accurate and hefty enough!

Deputy Norm: I own a few S&W Model 63's (in both 2" and 4" versions) and indeed one of them, that has been fired, often goes along with me on ventures afield. It is an amazing little pistol - accurate, reliable, lightweight and handsome. It would get my vote for "handiest" 22 LR revolver ever! I have taken all manner of small game, Grouse and Varmints with mine (including Rock Chucks and Skunks!). BUT... for the title of "finest 22 LR revolver ever" I would still nominate the wonderful older Smith & Wesson Model 17's. Especially if you want to choose between the 4", 6" or 8 3/8" options. In case you don't already have one, and seeings you are an admirer of the Model 63's, I suggest you look into a S&W Model 651 (same frame and stainless design as the Model 63 but in caliber 22 Magnum!) these are very handy pistols as well. And they serve good duty on killing Rattlesnakes with shot cartridges! Sadly these S&W Model 651's are painfully expensive anymore - and I do not believe S&W is manufacturing them these days! Yep love my Model 63's. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I'm a M-63, Kit Gun fan myself. Got mine used around 1969 or '70.
It's very slick and very accurate...
Great packing around gun that will get the job done.

The finest I have ever used is a 1957 4-screw no-prefix 6” M17 I have owned for over 30 years. Can’t say if it’s the best, but it’s the best I have ever fired.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

rjm talking about .22lr and jackrabbits made me remember an incident. I use to routinely pop jacks with what ever i had until one day. I was out on the desert and saw a male jack humping a female. Well, i shot the female first. The male looked up and kind of went whoaaa. So I shot him too. Too this day i fell guilty about that. I could have waited until he finished. jacks tend to soak up .22lr. my deceased son use to like a 130 grain hollow point out of a 30.06 at about 3000fps. that usually stopped them

I have a test target from the factory that proves the accuracy of this revolver. I have a model 97 with a 5.5” barrel. Also have an interchangeable .22 Magnum cylinder as well. Truly a superb firearm. Korth did make some .22 revolvers back in the day. They are superior firearms. I have a current model in .357 magnum with interchangeable 9mm cylinder. Truly a work of art. Considering what the FA costs, the .22lr Korth is probably not unreasonable.

probably the colt diamondback, with the smith 18 being a close second. ive always preferred a 4” barrel to a 6” on a revolver. theres something to be said for the bearcat too, if they just gave it a better trigger and more visible sights from the factory.
of course, theyll never make anything as slick as the diamondback again.

N8dawg6: I am greatly puzzled as to why you would prefer a 4" barreled Model 18 to a more accurate Model 17 with either a 6" or 8 3/8" barrel - after all isn't a more accurate pistol more "interesting"/desirable thus "finer"? I know I shoot the longer barreled revolvers more accurately - that is reason number one why I am an advocate of the Model 17 over the Model 14 (longer barrels available in the 17 whereas not an option with the Model 18).
