Shopping carts with a square wheel, or a bad bearing. Ever think of heading to the hardware department for a sample of penetrating oil?

Walmart always has a road block of them at the front door where customers grabbed one then left it to get a better one. Homeless people probably wear them out then swap them for newer ones.

A lot of people back into them in the parking lot and scoot them sideways for a few feet before they notice it. That wears a flat spot on the wheel & you get the thumpety thump stuff. Seems like I can never find one with actual round wheels.

the ones that i get at the various retail outlets seem to have bearings seizing up or somthing. maybe thread or string around the axle, i don't know.

i leave the beast the moment i detect friction, and go find another. and some don't track right either.

in lot's of neighborhoods no one returns carts to the cart parking area. they run loose.

there's some devious tricksters out there too. just be aware, and careful.

Around here, some of the jiggaboos push their shooping carts from the grocery store 1/2mile down the highway to the city bus stop. Then abandon them when the bus picks them up.

The store has to go down there and get them with a pick up truck.

I remember years ago reading an article in a magazine on ideas for new small business startups and on-site shopping cart cleaning/disinfecting and repair was one that seemed like there was a real need for and sounded like it could probably be worth looking into. All you needed to start with was van or pull behind trailer, assorted spare parts, lubricants, disinfectant soap, a steam jenny and maybe a small welder.

Most locations that have a problem attach theft prevention devices.

As far as damage from a parking lot, it is something the store must weigh. Employees to gather or carts to be damaged?

Actually, I used to fetch them. In California, there is a bounty on returned carts. They cost the store roughly $300.00 each, and they pay $3-$10 bucks a piece to get them returned. It's a way to make ends meet as a student in college. Having a full sized pickup and being observant to where they tend co collect, could turn a nice profit in a few hours of cruising around.

An unemployed Jester, is nobody's Fool.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

The Extra Foods store in Dryden, Ontario requires a Loonie dollar coin to release a cart. It is returned when you return the cart.

Our Costco just got in all new ones last month. The sides are a little lower and they have a permanate small basket in front of the push bar. Best of all, they all roll sooooooo smoothe.

My carts of choice always seem to "pull" to one side or the other - unless they wobble badly!

Home Depot and Lowes lumber carts are a whole other story. Talk about carts getting beat to hell. Bet those don't see 2 years. And they cost way more than a wire shopping cart.
