The best thing to do is a pair of kevlar knuckle entry gloves in coyote or desert tan. You can wear them all the time and thats that.

A sufficient length thin diameter phillips head screwdriver accents it very well.

Both of these items can save your life.

You should never hit with your knuckles but if you do these gloves can save you mucho pain.

I used to tend bar when I was going the University of Washington and there was a Seattle cop would come a few times on the weekends and he thought it was cool to "Tap" somebody with his sap and check their ID to make sure the barmaid s we're doing their job. For us country boys going to school, with one or both eyes black kept the rest from wondering who did that, shame or respect, both are gained from fighting, there is a difference in fighting, and dealing with some one that harmed your family.
