I've got a couple of mags for my 1911 that are getting in pretty rough shape aestetically speaking. There is even some minor rust on one of the springs. These mags have welded base plates. is there any way to disassemble them to clean them up and then refinish them? I'm thinking of either parkerizing them or just reblueing. I'm not looking for them to be really pretty when I'm done, just protecting them.

Put 4-5 rounds in the magazine and put an allen wrench between two of the whitness holes below the follower. Take out the ammo. Tap the magazine lips on something like a piece of wood and slide the follower out, then point the magazine into something soft and pull out the allen wrinch to release the spring...
Clean and refinish in the style of your choice....

I push the follower down with a screwdriver and use a punch in the witness hole. Pretty much the same as this guy, but I use the 15 second version, not the 6 minute.

Unless you're dealing with a rarity and finding replacements is an issue, I consider magazines to be expendable and refurbishing them isn't really worth the time or money IMO. If your magazines are still reliable, I'd just relegate them to "training/range" magazines and simply buy some new ones. If they're not reliable, I'd take advantage of Ed Brown's magazine deal and exchange them for some new ones.
S/S or bust...literally. Fhuqk any/all "coatings".
