Classic 1948 John Ford Beautiful Swest scenery (in B/W) Starring John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Ward Bond, and the only time I have ever seen Shirley Temple as an adult. She was a lovely young lady.
It is a great blend of humor and drama. A fun movie to watch.

It is a great blend of humor and drama. A fun movie to watch. Another one that's way better than Unforgiven. Easily makes the top 100.

I got all three of "the cavalry trilogy" on disc. Say what you want, but back then they knew how to make a western. Ben Johnson, before he died, commented on some of the newer westerns. I don't know what the exact wording was he used, but it was something like " the newer film makers know horses don't nest it trees. That's about it" I think ol Ben nailed it. 7mm

Well, i guess if youve seen 4 or 5 youve seen them all, for the most part.
I just now first saw Pale Rider. Yep, another feel good, which i like, but realky it was pretty damned stupid.
I wish i had watched Ft Apache again.

Of the three movies that made up the "cavalry trilogy", Fort Apache is my least favorite. I thought Fonda's character was pretty lame, and besides, as far as star power went, he and Wayne were pretty much on equal footing as far as Hollywood went, and I didn't like seeing the Duke sharing the screen with him. I thought Ward Bond played a very good role, along with Shirley Temple.
However, it's still much better than any of the crap that comes out today. In my way of thinking, any John Wayne movie is better than 90% of anything else.
