According to our Police Chief.

I'm too much of a worrier to leave a gun in mine, but knowing our City Council, new laws are prob'ly afoot.....

Always a bunch stolen in October with the shooting tournaments at the National Shooting Complex. People are warned every year yet some still leave their guns in their vehicles.

in a liberal city(oxymoron?) new laws are always the solution rather than properly enforce existing.

Its seemingly never going to be the criminals fault again ever.

In fact murder will eventually be our fault for being alive to murder.

Let us carry more places and few guns will be left in vehicles to be stolen.

The imported police chief in Seattle had his issued sidearm stolen out of his car a few years back.

As punishment he was promoted to an Obama position. (don't remember which one...)

Looked it up, drug czar, then what is now ICE.

I ain’t gonna point fingers at other people on this one. 1,900 guns a year ripped off from vehicles is a problem.

If it ain’t just San Antonio look for Bloomberg et al. to be funding similar news conferences in a city near you.

There are cures for crap like that, but it involves morgues.

Me either, of course I dunno the credibility of the data, but I can’t recall Cheif McManus being a political hack before.

Thieves have discovered that unless the door is opened on many cars, the alarm will not go off from broken glass.

So, they break the windows with a tool or an arm wrapped in a jacket, in to the console and glove compartment and out in 10 seconds, and gone.

Don't leave a firearm in your car.

I suppose that stats of that sort could be used for all sorts of nefarious political purposes, but you don't seem like the kind to post up stuff from dubious sources, Birdy.

I wonder if this will become one of the next vectors of gun control. Make it a crime to leave a firearm in a vehicle, so if you go anywhere that you can't carry, you have to leave it home, or break a law?

Well, it was from the local news outlet.

But looking into it; 25,000 car burgularies, 8,000 stolen cars a year in this county, and we’re #3 in the state, I’d guess behind Houston and Dallas.

https://news4sanantonio.com/news/lo...-to-wreak-havoc-on-san-antonio-motorists

For San Antonio 33,000 burgularized/stolen cars per year divided by 1,900 stolen guns ballparks to about one in twenty vehicles.

Sounds legit.

This is prob’ly gonna be Bloomberg’s next segue.

Agree that Bloomberg could jump on that, no doubt.

it's nothing new really. windows rolled up and doors locked.

but not always. sometimes doors are left unlocked.

Thats all fine and makes sense, but sometimes there is no other option in reality.

Plus why do the legal folks always have to take the blame for the illegal acts?

I'm personally tired of it. Break into my vehicle, steal a gun, you should face a serious penalty like death.

There's always options.

A person's gotta weigh their convenience against the possibility of involuntarily armin the bad guys.

Convenience? Being armed and staying legal is not a matter of convenience. It's just an imperfect solution.

A firearm can be secured as much as possible, at all times, if a person is willing to put forth the effort to secure it.

Leaving a firearm unattended in a vehicle is more convenient than ensuring it is protected.
