They've got one coming up here locally in about a month. I'm thinking of signing my boys up for it.
Does anyone have any experience with this course? Worth the time? I've heard about it before, just not very familiar with it.

Just be sure you sign up along with you're boys. 3 22 rifles. They do have a web site for you to get info.

Took my boys to it, listened in to some of it.
Very much worth it.

they mix in early American history, centered around the events of April 19, 1775. Tomorrow, bty the way! 243 years ago ! these were the events that started the American Revolutionary War
we've done 5-6 taken my 2 kids and several more of their friends. a great time was had by all we've done them in spring, summer, and one was done with 19* temps with a wicked north wind. the targets were blowing over one of the kids we took, won the marksmanship pin in his Army basic training. they allow scopes, if you prefer. and a detachable mag is prefered, but they can make provisions for a tube fed rifle expect to purchase a sling for the rifle, if you don;t have a suitable one you'll prpbable shoot 4-500 rounds.
have fun, and write a report !

Thanks fellas.
They did the 4H shooting for a couple of years with the Anchutz rifles and iron sights and this looks to be very similar (with a history lesson thrown in). They are 16 and 17 now, but should still enjoy and learn from it from what I can tell. I'm just planning on going and watching from the sidelines.

Gotta give an update. First day of the Appleseed match was today. My 17 year old did really well. The match director, who is the Appleseed coordinator for all of Texas and I think NM and OK said that, for only the second time since he's been doing these matches, has someone shown up on the first day and having never done Appleseed before, shot expert (rifleman). I'm pretty proud of him. He was the only person at the match to shoot expert as well. For the "red coat" target in the foreground, he was one of two people to shoot it cleanly as well. My youngest son shot sharpshooter, so now it's a competition between the two, ha. It's a lot of fun so far, and I'm just watching.

Shooting expert first time out has to be rare. One of the guys from my club did it a couple of years ago and was told that he was the first that instructor had ever had.
Congrats to your son. Glad everyone had a good time.

Younger son shot expert today. Oldest had 4 expert (rifleman) targets by end of day and youngest had three. Each scored successively higher each time too. They learned a lot and we all had fun too. Well worth while event to attend, for all ages.

Ryan, I have just learned about Project Appleseed. There is an event coming up this month I plan on attending at 56 yo. May I ask what rifle your fine boys used last year?
