I've had an old Mexican gunbelt around for years, but these TV cowboy rigs have proven useless for my purposes- in and out of vehicles and equipment and occasional horseback use. One of my boys gave me this outfit and I've always had a weakness for carved holsters, so I decided to make it into something more practical. First, I wet-moulded it to the Brazilian S&W 45. Then I trimmed the drop loop off the belt and had my Dutchman harness guy stitch up the surgery.
Next, I used Chicago screws to attach the holster to the belt (so it wouldn't shift around when you grabbed the gunbelt to put it on) and the holster to the back-plate, to eliminate the need for a tie-down.
Finally I added a hammer loop, cut from junker carved holster, and punched for a snug fit over the Brazilian S&W's tiny hammer spur. It's silent on and off and the gun ain't going nowhere when it's in place. I've been wearing it for a week, for the uses described above. I should have done this a long time ago.
