One day at a time. Congratulations. It’s been 34 years since I had a drink of an alcoholic beverage.... and I still go to meetings.

Good for you! Keep it up.

Good for you! Hopefully you can serve as an inspiration to someone else who needs it. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations, Boomer, I know how hard that is.

24 years for me. I hope I never go back. The best thing I ever did. My whole attitude and outlook on life has changed. I can't wait 'till tomorrow because something better happens every day.

For the mathematically inclined, it's interesting to calculate how much you didn't spend on booze, and cigarettes, and how much more you'd have if you had invested it in a typical mutual fund.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

I seriously hope you're not expecting he was serious.

But good on you to explain your circumstances.

"Or all & nothing? If I did it all, I'd have nothing"
Those are the most important thoughts to keep reminding yourself.
Eventually, a drunk will get worse till they bottom out.
Some people's bottom out is before they've lost everything. And that's where the victory lies.

I relaxed out with a few toddies for years. But it was rare that I overdid it in later years.

Still, it got to the point that my age was causing it to disagree with me more than it agreed with me. Heartburn and disrupted sleep patterns got to be a bit old. Not to mention the lack of energy that even a small amount of alcohol resulted in after a while.

I just gradually used it less and less until it got to be a rare occurrence.

For me, it became one of those things that became limited due to age,....kind of like eating a big double slap of ribs and being constipated for 3 days.

Just another adjustment,...something else that I did until I was finished.

I haven't missed it yet.

I'm not saying that I won't still pour a shot of whiskey in a cup of hot coffee on cold winter afternoons, however. Maybe a couple of times if it's snowy and the fireplace is kickin'.
