What do you think? As good as the old reds? On the topic, what varieties reds do you like?

Yellow tomatoes aren’t anywhere near as acidic as the reds. They can’t be used for canning and just don’t have the taste of reds.

I don’t plant heirlooms. Prefer to plant indeterminate varieties that have various degrees of VFN disease resistance.
Favorites are early 1950’s Jersey hybrid tomatoes....Jetstar, Moreton, Ramapo and Rutgers. These seeds were available through Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experimental Station.
Also, hard to go wrong with a Big Boy, Better Boy or Early Girl.

Nor do I.

I don't mind a few mixed in with fresh salsa or pico de gallo, but beyond that, I'm out.

I like good ripe ones, not ll the time, but a treat in my book.

Hell I'll take any after a winter of eating mealy damn imitations.

About the 4th of July around here before the real thing.

I don't really care for yellow tomatoes. As far as reds go, I started my own plants from seed this year, and they're Jet Star and Mountain Pride. I also bought 4 Rutgers plants, as I like them. I have grown a lot of Big Boys, Big Girls, Early Girls, Bradleys, and the Rutgers in years past.

Mortgage lifter, boxcar Willie, mountaineer, Cherokee purple, Rutgers, brandywine, German Johnson. I'd eat nothing but mortgage lifters and Cherokee purple.
