Seriously, before I even opened the thread, I was going to come on and suggest a Kimber like a smart azz. You got me!

Just put a deposit down on a S/S 300 win mag. Anybody have any experience, comments? All I know is I can't wait!

I bought a S/S 85 in .300WSM a few weeks ago. I've only fired it 5 times(fooling around gettin' it on paper/breaking in the barrel) and I really like the new stock design. Alot less felt recoil than the 75 in like cartridge. I'm happy so far......

If they would put a Kimber synthetic stock, on a Sako barreled action, you would have a winner. Still cannot believe Sako charges a grand for a gun with a plastic stock. crazy

Pretty funny, and I like Kimber and Sako - is that allowed?

Have to admit, though, if I had to go drive tacks out of the box, I would be a lot more confident in the Sako, or even a Tikka. Of course, accuracy is not the only thing I like in a rifle, and once a Kimber is there, it's a nice hunting tool for sure.

Really, I don't see much similarity in the rifles other than price. In different ways, both are lots of gun for the jingle.

Still want to find a Finnlight to put in an Edge... cool.

My Kimber 270 WSM thoroughly spanked my Sako Grey Wolf 270 WSM at the range the other day. When my buddy shot them, he put the Kimbers 1st 3 shots into 1/8" with the Sako it was closer to 3/4" for 3 shots. (I'd hunt with either)
Has anyone found any good 270 WSM loads for a Sako? My favorite 270 WSM load that shot so well in 4 other rifles gives disappointingly low velocity in the Sako....................DJ

If following suit it took 4 - 3 page posts on 24HCF, 2 returns to Kimber, a follow up to local smith, and 1 year to get the Kimber to shot the 1/8". While Sako shot 3/4" out of box...

Again j/k. But chances are.....................

I agree with DC223. I love Sako's stock ergonomics, but don't care for the plastic either. This is how the finnlites should have left the factory.....................

Poot,

Is that the "75" style stock in an Edge? I've been thinking of re-stocking my 75 SS in 300winmag into a McMillan. I'm just not sure about the style; Safari, classic or the 75. Any opinions on an Edge for a 300WM...I don't want to take too much punishment:)

That is the 75 pattern in the standard Mcswirly setup. It was a bit heavy for my liking so I have an edge on order. I love the 75 pattern a lot, the palm swell and slight cast off really seem to work for me and recoil is not bad at all. I think a sako 75 in 300 win in the edge would be perfect.

The Sako comes with ALL internal parts of stainless steel. Kimbers do not. Sako also comes with a fluted barrel and a 1" accuracy guarantee, which they back up, Kimber does not. I will say the Montana has a "better" stock though, if you like it (I don't), but I absolutely LOVE the palm swell on the Sako's. And their triggers are second to none for a factory rifle.....

Having never re-stocked a rifle, what are the benefits of changing out the factory stock on the Sako in favor of the McMillan? I understand that the McMillan will be stiffer all the way out to the forend, but I guess I wasn't sure about the real world benefits. Of course the "cool" factor alone is enough to justify the switch. I suppose weight saving also would be nice...anyone know what the factory stock weighs?

Maybe I'm the exception. I have a Sako 75 in 25-06 that doesn't come close to the reputation. It shoots not too bad with 75 grainers but where I live they are no good for anything but punching paper.
Based on my experience with this one it is unlikely I'll have another.
