Has anyone tried this cartridge? Same bolt and mags as 223. Can neck up 223 to 25 caliber (.257). A 300 yard deer kill range. Flat shooting. Kind of like the 300 B.O. or the 35 Legend, but longer range.

I guess no one has tried this cartridge. It was designed for hunting up to deer size animals at longer ranges than the 300 B.O.

I looked at it. It and several others actually. I'd like a light upper capable of a little bigger hole than the 5.56. I've also looked at .300Ham'r, 350 Legend, 6.5 Grendel, and doing a .458 SOCOM. The mag capacity is a drawback to the .458 though. In truth a 5.56 with the right bullets has worked, but I guess I have some old thoughts.

Those deer shot at 160 yards were good clean kills. 25-45 might be the ticket for southern deer hunting. Decent range, no bolt change, no magazine change. Better ballistics than the 300 B.O. for hunting. Reloaders can use 5.56/223 brass. What is not to like? Only Grendel and 458 SOCOM may be better for hunting, but do require bolt and magazine changes. Not the big hoopla that 300 B.O. had.

It's not a 25/06 but there is sure nothing wrong with it for deer.

been shooting one for 3-4 years now. touted as a 250-3000 in the ar platform. comes close and is as accurate as i am. killed coyote at 225 yards with a 85g nosler. drt.
only thing i don't like is the bullet diameter is so close to the 223 my old eyes have a hard time being sure what i am looking at without a side by side comparison.
have taken to using only commercial head stamped brass for the 25. not cheap but it lasts
have not been able to get published velocities with the loads that sharps puts out but they used a 24 inch barrel i think, could be wrong .

btw the 458 uses standard mags. just reduced capacity. at least mine does.

Yes, Sharpe did use a 24 inch barrel. I think Sharpe sells them, but they are expensive.

There's this thing called the 6.5 Grendel... .007 difference and so much easier to deal with including cheap ammo.

True sporting arms is sold out of 25-45 barrels. MY barrel is an 18" BHW barrel. I picked up for around $90 shipped.

What I really like about the 25-45 Sharps is all my brass has been free. I use picked up L.C. range brass.

I have three 6.5 Grendels and none of them are anything to brag about. I expect they will work equally as well for deer though.

My newest project has been shooting the 27 GPC in a 22" barrel. I have been shooting the 130 speer boattail at 2660 FPS and this barrel does shoot. Probably my most accurate firearm I own. It is a MDWS barrel. They are on sale this weekend for 30% off BTW. The 27 GPC can also shoot 6.8 SPC ammo.

It is an improved 6.8 SPC. Similar to an Ackley improved cartridge. More powder capacity but can still fire the original cartridge.

Bullets matter wayyyy more than headstamps and Retardation ain't an "advantage".

Hint..................

A 250 3000 has accounted for a pile of deer over the last 100 years and deer are not a bit harder to kill
Although range will be limited to 300 yds or so
90 % of deer are killed much closer
I’m thinking on rebarreling a howa mini with carbon fiber stock to 25 sharps for a likght weight hunter.

I had one. Loved the round. Shot a big doe at 65-70 yards, one shot and down and dead. But the rifle would jam every few rounds, tried 2 different lowers, still jamed had several different guys check it out. It still Jamed. So sold it.

What's the advantage over a 6x45 ? Same .223 case with 6mm bullets. I am not real familiar with the 25-45 Sharps so please pardon my ignorance.
