Anyone have experience handloading 300gr and 330gr Lehigh copper bullets for .480 Ruger?

Loads and performance?

No experience with the 330gr .475 but have loaded some of the 265gr .44s. They are very long for the weight. In the .44 it is difficult to get enough slow burning powder in the limited case capacity to achieve mag velocities -- I eventually settled on Accurate #9. Don't know if you would run into the case capacity problem in the .480. I have no personal experience in the field -- Whitworth (Max Prasac) does a bunch of large animal testing -- he should have some results from recent Bovine Bash shortly.

Here is a source for load data -- Lehigh website:

Thanks, Paul.

I have that data. Am starting at 21gr H110 with the 300gr, 21.5 gr for the 330. *May* get a few minutes to start chrono-ing them soon.

I shoot a 475 Linebaugh. I looked at that data in the link you provided for the 475 Linebaugh, that is some screaming speed. It's a hundred feet per second faster than the Speer 325 grain data. But I am dumbfounded as to why a company would publish untested theoretical data.

We tested pre-production Buffalo Bore Dangerous Game loads in .480 Ruger at last year's Bovine Bash with great success. The .480 load was pushing the 330 at right around 1,330 fps (average). My friend's daughter killed a big water buffalo bull with that load and I killed a gayal (gaur) hybrid that weighed 2,600 pounds with that load. Damn good bullet.
