When you put the rotor back in, did you put it in "out of time"?

I put the roter in the same way that it came out,so I guess it is timed right, this is my first Savage 99 so I really don't have much experience with the rotery magazine

When you put it back in you might have have gotten the spring too tight to the point that it's got no more give after 3 rounds are loaded. Try releasing a little tension.

tpaulos, Skidrow guessed the same thing I did. I've had to clean and rewind a 99 mag rotor a couple of times, and if you over tension it to start with it'll wind to the spring's limit before the mag is full. Take it out and redo it with only enough tension to reliably hold and feed one cartridge. That's all it needs. AW

You may be having the problem I had when I first got my 99. I didn't know how to load it. I could only get about 3 rounds in because I was pushing down on the cartridge as you do in a bolt gun. I thought my rotor was sprung improperly. Finally figured out you had to push the cartridge toward the left wall and downward to spin the rotor. Hope this little embarrassment of mine helps you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Take 1.5 turns maybe 2 at the most on the rotor spring...You took too many I suspect.....
