Your thoughts please on glass for a new CZ .22. I have a half dozen or so 2-7 and 3-9 variable scopes I could use. Some older Nikon Monarch UCC, Burris FF II, Leupold VX 1 and II, and Bushnell 3200. Should I consider a rimfire scope or something with an an adjustable AO? This .22 will see mostly range time at 50 yds, occasionally 100 yds and some squirrel hunting. How important is it to have a scope with the parallax set at 50 yds, or being adjustable as opposed to the above listed scopes which most likely have parallax set at 100 yds? Is this splitting hairs? Just looking to maximize my ability to shoot it accurately.

I think it is worth it to at least have a rimfire specific scope, or even better an adjustable AO.

A good budget option is the nikon rimfire target EFR. small target dot, adjustable parallax down to 10 yards I believe, decent glass for the money.

Which CZ model? the 452/455 are going to force you to mount it up a decent height, so might as well have a larger objective (40m+) to take up that space.

If on a tight budget, Nikon mentioned, clearidge makes a nice rimfire with ao and weaver classic rimfire is hard to beat.

Here’s a good deal

i have several CZ-452's and a couple 455's and use the burris signature 3/8/11mm rimfire rings with leupold, gasp, vx-2 4-12x40mm or 6-18x40mm both WITH adjustable objective. OR get the UTG .22lr weaver adapter that will step up your 11mm or 3/8" dovetail to weaver specs. then i'd go burris signature zee rings for that also in medium if a 40mm or smaller objective.
good luck CZ's are great rimfire rifles,
Big Ed

Another vote for the Nikon 3-9x40 Target EFR. Great scopes for under $200. Come to think of it, I may have an extra in my safe if you are interested let me know.

In your place I would mount up something that you already have and see if it is going to work well for you. I have an old 2.5-8x36 Vari-X lll Leupold on my 10/22 and it seems to work just fine. I put a rimfire 3-9x33 AO Leupold on my M61 and that AO is just something else to mess with. If your cheek weld is consistent behind the scope, parallax should be minimal.

i shoot at varying ranges from 25-100 yds so an AO scope is a must for me. 14x at 25yds is rough unless you do have an AO scope.
just my opinion,

I'd go with the Leupold 4X fixed. It's light, compact, plenty of eye relief, and it has a 28mm objective lens so it can be mounted low. The parallax is set for 60 yards,...which is about optimum for a .22.

I just happen to have an older M8 4x Leupold not in service.

Windfall, I am leaning towards doing just that with something I already have and see how it shoots. I believe my shooting mechanics are generally consistent at the bench.

I won't hesitate to go with a rimfire or adjustable AO scope either.

Thanks to all for the response.

I'm a fan of Leupold's 4X rim fire scopes so I put one on my 452 when I first got it.

Like you I use mine for target shooting 90% of the time so a couple of years later when I ran across a good sale on Leupold's Compact 3-9 I decided to give one a try.

I can tell you without question that as much as I like rim fire scopes on rim fire rifles there is no possible way I switch em back.

Here's a visual......rings are Tally med.

Another + for the 3-9 is that's one of the few scopes left that you can still get in Gloss finish (a must for a 452 IMO).

Hope this helps.

I hope that I am wrong, but do not believe leupold offers a 3-9 in a gloss finish anymore. I think the only gloss options left are the fixed rimfire offerings.

Please prove me wrong, because I am looking for one!

14x at 25 yards? ? ?

Fishnpbr, you have great options collecting dust at the house. Pick one you think looks best on the cz , maybe one under 40mm if you have one, mount it and just rock on. Pretty sure you won't feel lacking. I just went through this and ended up with a new Hawke 2-7x32 w\o AO on my 10/22. Looks more appropriate than the very nice 6x42 I had laying around. Absolutely love it and find I use <6x more than >6x.

Just my .02¢

That could be the case.......I've been out of the loop for awhile.

It's a real shame if they did.

For starters I'm leaning toward the Bushnell 3200 2-7x32 that I have. The glass isn't bad at it's price point. The .22 is a CZ 455 stainless synthetic. I do like the reticle on the Nikon 3-9x40 P3 EFR mentioned by centershot.

I do appreciate the input.

If your wanting gloss and new,.clearidge makes a gloss scope with the dot option. Just sayin...

https://www.clearidgeoptics.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=3360

Personally I wouldn’t want a rifle scope on a rimfire. The 100 yard parallax makes it difficult at max power at say 50 yards and closer.

My preference is something I can clear up at 10 yards to whatever.
Hunting situations, the riflescope not a biggy, but when target shooting at 50 it will make it more challenging. My $.03 now. I’m done😀

Yes, you are right. Maybe some of the responses would have been different or more precise? Maybe not. However I'm not sure that the model of .22 would have changed the opinions to my question of weather I should consider a rimfire, AO scope, or make do with something on hand that are neither rimfire or AO.

Thanks

I put a non-AO Nikon Prostaff BDC rimfire scope with Weaver medium dovetail rings on my 452 American, no problem with parallax and the bolt handle clears just fine. I could keep 5 shot groups under a 1/2" at 50 yds - I really doubt that AO would have tightened groups much more.
