what is the difference in the actions of a 300 Sav and a 308 Win ?? Is it a viable idea to lengthen the chamber ? I make 300 Sav brass from 308, and have often thought of stroking the chamber on one of the safe mutts to get a truck gun. good idea of not??

No, not really. Sell the 300 and buy a 308. Internals of most 300 Savages won't accommodate the 308 family of cartridges. At least until after serial number 900,000. But even then, just buy a 308.

Or just shoot it as a 300. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 300 Savage at all. And if you think its underpowered just consider it leaves the venerable 30-30 in the dust.

Killed an elk at 200 yds with a 300 Savage. Bang, flop. Killed a number of other hoofed critters with 300 Savages also.

If you just want a truck gun and want a 308, get a newer E in 308. I picked one up at an estate auction for $300.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
