I have an 1885 Winchester Hi-Wall in 32-40 with 30" barrel listed on GunBroker. I am from Oregon. Same listing is on "Arms List"" from a FRAUDSTER in Michagan. This is second time this has happened to me in the last 5 years. Wonder how many listings on "Arms List" are Fraudsters Listings ?......Dick

When I look at the pictures of both rifles, I see two completely different rifles. Never bought anything from either site, so what I see is all I got to go by.

A bidder contacted me this morning with only a couple of hours to go on my listing, # 830070178 and I went over to Arm List, and sure enough There it was . Using my pics and details from my auction. I tried to notify Arm List, but don't know if it did any good......Dick here is a copy of FRAUD listing on Arms List.

I've seen this on Armslist quite a bit.. The feature that stands out is only a state is listed and not a specific city or area in state. Beware if you list on Armslist as well. I have been contacted many times from a con artist that wanted to send a check for more than the price of the firearm. "cash it and keep the rest for your troubles. just send the gun". Email conversations are pretty funny as well. Usually use words out of order and tense. "I send you check from good bank". Armslist will let one flag a suspicious or illegal ad as well. I've done face to face on half a dozen long guns and some smaller items. Just play it smart and get info up front. DL or CPL pic has worked for me. Good luck, Scott

Anyone that uses armslist for non face to face deals is a fool.

Deal only Face to Face, Only way you know you're not going to get screwed.

Had similar experiences on craigslist and match.com. One "woman" on match.com supposedly texted me from Turkey, but being "charitable and cautious" and an old telephone man, I checked and found the supposed mobile number was in fact a landline in the Norfolk area. When I braced the fraudster on it, "she" was very curious about how I figured out the scam. Pretty sure I was being setup for a request for some emergency funds to get "her" back home. Had one or two others that were similar; the key clue being odd sentence structure and repetitive phrasing that indicates English ain't their first language.

The craigslist scam was the usual spiel about the "buyer" being a very busy travelling businessman who was going send me a check for deposit and have one of his "people" come for the item. That one was to get hold of my bank info.

I think that frauds have been doing this on the net for some time. A while back one of them copied my ad and photo when selling our 1952 Mack LTL - ridiculously easy to see the scam because it was a one of a kind truck by then. And, that was done through a rather small organizational web site. It was an interesting conversation when I called him about buying "his" truck, especially in that ours had sold within two days of posting our ad. There are low-life creeps well-scattered among us.

Simple- ignore Armslist and Craigslist. Use Gunsamerica, Gunbroker, Facebook Marketplace or forum classifieds.
Generally on a forum, local members to the seller are willing to step in if something goes wrong

I only use Armslist when it's a legit dealer doing the selling and he's a long time seller.
