Found a 250-3000 savage for sale in excellent condition. It’s a takedown model with what I guess is called a perch belly stock with checkered pistol grip, checkered schnabel forearm, and a ramped front sight base machined from the same stock as the barrel (integral?).
I’m not a savage expert, but I originally thought this was a 250 deluxe. However, the ramped front sight doesn’t make sense for the model.

Sounds like a 99 G, except the perch belly stock. What serial# range?

When you say ramped, exactly what do you mean?

Keith's picture above is what we call an "integral sight base", and it is machined out of the same metal as the barrel. The later ramp front sights are also machined out of the same metal as the barrel. So the name might be misleading. Here's a later ramp front sight.

The front sight looks like the one Calhoun posted, a ramped sight machined from the barrel stock. I’ll provide the serial number range when in a little bit.

Hmm... a true perchbelly stock 1899 shouldn't have that type of ramp front sight. The perchbelly stocks stopped in 1917, the ramp front sights started in 1927.
Few possibilities... 1) It's not really a perchbelly stock, but a later 250-3000 or 99G stock 2) A later barrel was put onto an earlier model 1899 250-3000 which has a perchbelly stock 3) A perchbelly stock was put onto a later takedown 99G 4) A very, very slim chance it is a 1920's 99 with a perchbelly stock. I believe a two or three have been seen?
We'll know more with the serial number.

Here is the rifle. I called the shop and made a deal for substantially less than it was listed on GB. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/830779107

Cool! And it's:
2) A later barrel was put onto an earlier model 1899 250-3000 which has a perchbelly stock
Might be a owner swapped them, or it went back to the factory for a swap. Either way, should be a nice shooter. Love them perchbelly stocks.

Barrel address might help date the barrel.

I took it out and shot it today. What a neat little caliber, low recoil and surprisingly accurate. I’m not great with open sights, but I had no issue blowing up milk jugs with one shot at 200 yards.

Yep, I love the 250-3000. Great round.
They are addictive tho.
