I would go with the 25-06 or have both for the hell of it.

I've hunted deer for around 50 years, used several calibers, but by far, most were taken with a 25-06, the past 30 years.

25-06 is the perfect deer cartridge in my opinion.

Whatever the 243 is gonna do, the 25-06 is gonna do it 300fps faster. They are both great cartridges.

25-06 is the perfect deer cartridge in my opinion. While somebody might just like something better due to their own personal bias, it would extremely difficult to refute this statement. From 0 - 450 yards, I’d have to agree.
What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?
