I ran across a pretty decent 336 in 32 special and always looking to play with something old. What should I be looking for and expect. price is 400 and that seems a bit high. It is scoped with an old Weaver 4x

$400 seems to be a very fair price to me unless it’s a newer Remington model. Nothing really to look for that wouldn’t be common on any other rifle/lever gun. I think 32 spl is a bit rare. Sling swivel studs are not a factory option so if they are installed it was done after it was purchased. A lot of times people will install the rear sling swivel where the bullseye was but that can in most cases be repaired easily. They came will Ballard and micro groove rifling so do some research on that if you like shooting cast lead.

$400 is a very good price,I'd buy it for that unless it's a real mess. Does the tube magazine go all the way to the end of the barrel or half way? if half way it's an S.C. or A if all the way it's a RC or C Remington Marlin's were never made in .32 Spl If it's 336 S.C. or 336A some did come with factory sling swivels,my.1960 336 SC 32 Spl. did,the SC's and A's have a end cap not a barrel band where the sling swivel attaches to.
IF it's a S.C. go get it now!

Ballard or microgroove will be stamped on the left side of the bbl.

Micro Groove started in 1956 on the Model 336 I know that's the standard answer but I had a 1955 that had micro groove.

All of the late 40s and early 50s Marlin 336s I have had were accurate and nearly all were very slick. The attention to detail and fit and finish on Marlins of that era was first rate.

My father passed down his 1957 336RC in .32 Special to me. It was the first centerfire rifle I ever shot and carried in the woods by myself. I cherish it more than any other I possess. It was gifted to my Dad by his father. It will go to my eldest son some day.

Its nice to be able to pass down your interests and tools to your children.
Neither of my kids are interested in shooting or hunting, so I'll probably sell the majority of my firearms and accessories over the next few years and waste the money on practical stuff.

260 & Youper, foolish.. Don't you have any younger hunters that would delight in having fine firearms..?? I have no kids of my own, thank God, but lots I taught in school, they are glad to know they will receive mine when I am finished with them.. They will enjoy them for years to come. Your kids will just piss the money away anyway...
