Be a "Q" for Gene
At an elderly Gents place today and he pulled out some goodies to ask if I had any knowledge
he had me stumped on this one a Winchester high wall 22 LR that an old friend had just dropped off
Research tonight has pegged it to a Winder Musket not in great shape and the front fore wood cut off
but the interesting thing was the rear sight as he had had a sight the same for many years but didn't know anything about it
I found a sight that has a picture of the sight & they refer to it as a CCD sight another sight called it a 44A
But here is the link scroll down to the sight pic's

http://www.littlegun.be/ma_collection/amerique/a%20us%20winchester%201885%20winder%20gb.htm

Anybody identify it
Cheers Graham

Outgrowth of the Buffington rear sight that Springfield Armory put on M1884 and later Trapdoor Springfields. The sight on the Winder Muskets is either the exact same sight or a modification thereof. The Krag sight used on late issue rifles was also a direct copy of the Buffington sight. I can't tell you for sure if they changed the graduations on both variants, but am pretty sure they did. The first experimental M1903's used the same sight, but they modified it greatly to become the standard M1903 Springfield sight that saw service for 30+ years. The Buffington sight was highly regarded in the shooting world of the 1890's.

There you go again, Gene! Flashing one of the few .22's in the world left for me to lust after. If I fell into a Pope-barreled Krag I would swear off swearing. Honest, God, I would!!

Graham, the sight in the first link is graduated to 20 as are Gene's. The sight in the second link is graduated to 23.
