Yeah, but the deer will be wearing skates too-so will the swamp squids.

we've been in the single digits in the mornings, highs in the 30's. got 2 bucks in the back yard right now. once is a really wide 2x3, gotta be 28" wide, pretty cool to see

Just got back from the happy hunting grounds. I won't be able to get my deer cart back to my spot. The trail's flooded out down in a nasty little bottom, and I'd have to cut a new trail on higher ground to get around the flooded area. LOTS of scrapes on the trail I'm watching. Looks like their just getting going up there. Didn't see any wolf sign, which is a good thing. One week to the opener......

You could try one of those tree umbrellas above your chair.

I've got one and it will be going for sure. I hate hunting in the rain.

Took jack and two buddies to the WI deer camp today. We put up his new ladder stand, grabbed the SD card from my ground blind, and cut some shooting lanes for jacks buddy to put up a ground blind.

I think we have a fairly full camp this year, plus grand babies which although quite small, require the space of 2 full grown humans it seems. lol!

You won't have to worry about that water gopher, it will turn to hard water. Several of our stands have water that we have to cross this year, I went to my spot and to my daughters yesterday morning. Ice is forming, enough in some areas to hold me up. We are supposed to see single digit lows this week so that will firm things up even further.

You need to find yourself a natural blind like this!

Out in the cedar swamps, roots run on the surface and you get blow downs that uproot the whole base now and then. Some form a back wall, this one is like a dome, lol.

Firewood gathering on Saturday. 3 loads like this, should easily take us through the winter for the frequency we actually visit the shack.

Yesterday morning as the sun was coming up, low light shot from the wood stove tending position.

Something ripping up the tags by my deer stand.

This is a temporary bridge which is now decked with lumber. We will be attempting to cross with pickup trucks.

I started rounding up my gear out in the garage. Still debating on humping the blind into my spot. It'd be nice if the ice would set up like up by you, Dave, but it's just not cold enough in my A.O. yet. Your camp looks good. Hope you guys get into the deer. Do you need to draw doe tags up there or is it either/or? We're within a couple miles of the CWD zone, and can get doe tags for over there for $2.50 each. I'm thinking if I happen to tag out Saturday, I'll buy one tag for over there and try to fill it later Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Once again, good luck to everyone and hunt safe.

It looks like we'll have 5 at da WI camp. Shaping up to be a fun little get-together. I've been sicker'n a dog the last week or so. But managed to make to the woods to show the two other guys around a bit. My buddy Jeff and his son Owen will be joining us as well as Jack's other buddy I've talked about before.

All these boys have grown up together, play baseball and football together so I think it will be a great time.

Pulled the card on one the trail cam by my blind and have a few bucks. All of them are targets...just some more than others. laugh

Biggest guy I've seen show up so far.

There is a scrape under that angled tree in the left of the pics.

Have 2 pics of this guy, both times stopping right there when the cam got him. No other pics of him. I'm assuming he's scent checking that scrape.

I liked this one because it caught the Blue Jay.

I saw meat in front of you. Why don't we see any on the ground? That looked like a decent buck!
