Looking to pick up some binoculars for one of my sons, use will mainly be whitetail hunting. What’s the best bang for the buck in this price range?

In that price range I'd look for used Steiners.

If you can find old Japan built Brunton Echo 8x42s online, that would be $100 well spent. Happy Trails

meopta optica? $289. little more than you'd want to spend originally.. but buy once/cry once.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I have an Athlon Midas 8x42 that is much better than most everything mentioned above that I’d let go for $180. They are 99%...like new.
Excellent glass for the money!
I can text pics.

Leftybolt If all the feedback is true, this would be a sweetheart of a deal. Even if you didn’t like ‘em, you’d have no problem reselling them at that price, if not even more. FC

Thanks FC....they really are nice!
I purchased them new last month as a loaner pair for a young hunter I took out to Utah last month on a mule deer hunt. They served there purpose very well and he enjoyed the hunt much more having a decent pair of binoculars to use...got a nice little muley buck too!
Binocs still look new other than one tiny scratch on one of the objective lenses( doesn’t affect view and isn’t noticeable unless you’re really looking for it).
Still have box...come with soft case, unused bino strap, and lense covers. Lifetime warranty on these.
I paid $240 a month ago.
I don’t need them...have 2 other binocs that don’t get loaned out.
I read many of the reviews online and here on “the Campfire” before purchasing...they really are better than their price tag indicates(twist up eye cups are excellent w/ long eye relief, wide field of view, very smooth focus wheel, and crisp, sharp, very bright image clear out to the edge of the lenses. Build quality is also excellent!
Can text pics to anybody interested.
$180 shipped.
