Another which one should go thread. I have some rifles that just sit and collect dust. Which ones do you think should go down the road? Keep in mind that I have two kids under 5
22 Hornet in a 77/22 223 in a stainless Hawkeye 22-250 in a stainless 70 Classic Featherweight 243 in a stainless Hawkeye 25-06 in a 70 Classic 7 STW in a 70 Classic 30-06 in a JC Higgins 50 338 Win Mag in a 70 Classic (I dislike this one) 416 in a Hawkeye Alaskan (This is way better than the 338)

I’d keep whatever shot better between the 22 Hornet and 223.
Rebarrel your Stainless FW to 7mm-08 and hunt it.
I’d pitch the 25-06 unless it shot WAY better than the 243, since 6mm bullet options with a 9 twist aren’t bad and you get a shorter gun overall for your kids. If money weren’t an issue, rebarrel the 25-06 to something fun with a decent twist rate. Maybe a 280 AI?
If I had a magnum length M70 action, I’d make a 300 H&H, but thats just me.
Keep the 30-06 for general principal.
Pitch the 338 since you don’t like it....to me!
416? I’d have no use for it, but if you do, why not keep it since it sounds like you like it.

The 223 and the 30-06 are what I've used pretty much for everything the last 3 years. My dad and brother used to farm, and 90% of the crop damage deer fell to these two
I did have a 300 H&H in a 1917, but with it being bigger, heavier, and longer than the Higgins, the Higgins was used way more.
If you're interested in the 338 shoot me a PM.
The 416 is useless, but it's impressive. It's sure not hurting anything hanging onto it

If it were me (assuming I would want to get rid of any) ...
Keep: 223 in a stainless Hawkeye 22-250 in a stainless 70 Classic Featherweight 243 in a stainless Hawkeye 25-06 in a 70 Classic 30-06 in a JC Higgins 50 338 Win Mag in a 70 Classic (I dislike this one)
Gone: 22 Hornet in a 77/22 7 STW in a 70 Classic 416 in a Hawkeye Alaskan (This is way better than the 338)

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I'd get rid of the Hornet, the 25-06, the 7 STW, the 30-06, the 338 Win mag, and the 416.
Then I'd buy a 7-08 and/or a 308 with the proceeds. Probably a Fieldcraft when they become available again. And also invest in good scopes for what I had left.

If that STW Classic is stainless I’ll be more than happy to get it out of your way.

Keep the 223, 243, and model 50 30-06 - everything else is just superfluous anyway. Consider using some of the proceeds to buy a good 22 LR and let the kids learn on it.

Get rid of the 338 for sure. May as well send me the Hornet.

338 is a no brainer, as you already don’t like it. Start with that ...

The 338 is sold to Gooch_McGrundle. I do have (2) 10-22s, a stainless boat paddle 77/22, and a youth 514 to start the kids on.
The STW and 25-06 aren't stainless.

I'd ditch the STW and the Hornet, too. There's nothing you couldn't do with what would remain.

7 STW in a 70 Classic 30-06 in a JC Higgins 50 338 Win Mag in a 70 Classic (I dislike this one) 416 in a Hawkeye Alaskan (This is way better than the 338)
I generally oppose selling off rifles, at least until one is so old he can't hunt/shoot anymore. However, if one absolutely has to sell off some dead wood, my thoughts: The 7STW, 338WM, and 416 have little practical hunting value in Michigan, and thus would be good candidates for thinning the herd. The JC Higgins in 30-06 is about as unremarkable a rife as there is, and would be another good one to move.

Especially with that crappy FN Mauser action.

Sell the 338 since you dislike it. Easy fix.
