I have had a few 44's, my current and most accurate is my 629-4 Classic. It would probably shoot as well as MSBs classic, but I don't think I can. I use it mostly for bowling pin lately, with 6.5 grs of Unique. Would like to acquire a shorter barreled one as this one weighs almost as much as I do. In the woods it's carried in a Milt Sparks NFR cross draw holster. best free image hosting sites

I just forayed into a similar sight (Vortex Razor) on a Glock 40 10 mm and it confirmed it was my eyes and not my hands. Remarkable actually Nice shooting.

Model 1894 Marlin Limited 16" .44 and 4" 629: Hay Mac, Two questions, did you ever use one of your .44's "on the job"? And, I am looking for a good load for 300 grain cast to use in both my flattop and my Marlin 1894. This is my truck gun so it will be used in every thing from coyote to Muslim. Reading your comments lead me to believe, I can trust your advice. Thanks bud. W. Bill

W. Bill,
I never used the .44s on the job in an official capacity. That said on occasion I have used one to put various animals down. However, the very vast majority of animals I have put down, I have used a .45 ACP. When I have used a .44 however, I was almost always with a 240 grain SWC.
Most Marlins don't like 300 grain bullets (my experience), and in fact my experience has shown that anything past 270 grains gets iffy. My 336 44 (don't own it anymore) and 1894 both like jacked bullets better than cast. The Speer 270 grain Gold Dot was an excellent round in each accuracy wise. For cast, the standard 10G Unique and 240 SWCs produced some good groups, just not as tight as the jacketed, like 240 XTPs pushed by H110 and Gold Dots.

Have to add to the ongoing thread. The Model 329 and some little Communists. 240 grain round nose lead Russian loads. Slick little things in speed-loaders

And some full wadcutters in a 29-2. 240 RNLs at 25 yards:

This is cross-posted, but in the interest of keeping valuable .44 information in the .44 thread, I figured I would do so This target was shot at 20 yards instead of 25 just because that was where the sagebrush, my hood and everything lined up. I got a few minutes to run out and pop a few rounds out of my lever action as well as my 5" 29 Classic, and the results made me grin to say the least. I was shooting over a bag, over the top of my hood, and apparently that was good enough! The target was slightly tilted, so the holes are a bit angled, but the little 180 wadcutters in the Russian cartridge cases are a real winner! I then fired the last three I had with me into the big diamond target: I only have a few hundred of these specific 180 wadcutters, as well as a few hundred of another brand, but know of another outfit that makes 200 grain full wadcutters, so I may look into purchasing some of theirs and see how they do. For now I will definitely be loading up the rest of what I have on hand. I also fired 6 of the little cone head looking loads. It seems that The Russian really likes the Titegroup powder and the little bullets.

I’ll bet those wad cutters would hook a brother up.

Just finished reading this thread, thanks for everyone’s contributions. I have 3 44’s right now, a 3” 629, a 6.5” 629 Classic and an 8 3/8” 629 Classic. Just started reloading last year and have played around with a few loads, 10grs of Unique-240lswc, some 2400 and HS 6 loads.
Have a question about the AW200 Holsters, how do they do with a 3” gun?
Hoping to pick up some of those wadcutters soon to try out.

As noted in the thread, I have a few 200AW holsters. but mine are all for 4"s guns, and one 5". As far as the difference between the 4" and 3" holsters, I don't know, doubt there would be much difference carry wise. Of course if you bought a 4" holster that would give you an excuse to buy a 4" gun and have a multi-purpose holster!
