I've always used 220grain Hornady RN for reloading for my Browning 1895 reproduction.
I Bought it back in the early 80's while stationed at Fort Bragg.
I used Remington 180SPCL factory ammo on deer in NC/SC/GA/TN untill I got home in 1992 and started to reload for it.
Using either Hornady 220grain RNSP or RNFMJ with 41.0grains of H4350 gives great accuracy!
Whitetail,BlackBear,Boar,Elk,Mulies and a Caribou were all dropped by a cartridge that was state of the art back in 1892!

Never felt the need for light-weight bullets in my 1895.
I did always want to try the Barnes 250grain RN .308diameter.
Has anyone ever tried those in their 30/40?
Mike

Never shot any critters with mine, but I did have an old Krag that tickled me, it shot pretty tight with factory ammo. I went out to the range once with this older fellow I worked with. He used to crow about Rem 700's and 7 mm mags, anyways, I took my Krag and a handful of loose REM-UMC softpoints from a cigarbox full of ammo. My Kag was an 1896 with a 30" barrel and a cutdown stock, it put 3 shots into 3/4", using the issue sights to boot, and I don't even know that the bullet weights were all the same. That put a twist in his underwear, because his Remington wouldn't shoot any better, and it was scoped. But he deserved it, anytime I'd talk about something I liked, he'd say "they're so good they don't make them anymore". He moved to Colorado and I lost touch with him, I hope he's doing well, he was a good guy.
