I'll never buy another new one. I bought a R700 223 few years back. Can't remember the model but it's the one that replaced the 700 LTR. Point being not a cheap rifle. New out of the box wouldn't chamber a round. Bad extractor , they sent me 5 new extractors at my request and all 5 were bad too. Ended up fixing it with a Dremel. What's so bad is apparently after checking around other forums this problem has been going on for years.

I wouldn’t be the least bit afraid. I’ve bought a 308 and the very rifle you’re thinking about. Both have been flawless. I put a new spring in both from Earnie and all is good.

I’m of the same logic. I want an accurate, effective tool. Not saying that I don’t appreciate or like a finely blued and well crafted wood stocked rifle. I would only ruin the beauty by using the hell out of it. If the only issue is a not so great trigger I’ll be content. I’ve replaced a few in the past with Timney triggers and that’s about an hour well spent in the shop to install and tune.
Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
