ADA, Okla. (KXII) - The Ada city council approved the change to rename Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day at its meeting Monday night.

The council decided unanimously to officially recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day.

Many supporters of the change attended the meeting.

No opposition was heard on the issue.

The City of Ada says it is an overdue gesture to show the positive impact of the Chickasaw Nation having its headquarters in the city.
"I think it's better we recognize the resiliency of indigenous people rather than give respect to a man who didn't do the things we celebrate," supporter Briana Mason said.

The change will go in to effect next year.

Injuns can't accept that they lost the war for the continent. As has been said here many times before, "they should have fought harder..."

Well, Whitey was as numerous as the blades of grass on the prairie.

If you think letting "undocumented immigrants" squat by the millions is no big deal, ask my Cherokee ancestors about the Trail of Tears.

If those stupid red men had instituted better border control, Columbus would not be an issue today.

That’s because you’re ignorant. Two hundred fifty years ago the Chickasaw were widely feared by tribes as far away as New England for their skill in combat and the distances they would travel to wreak havoc, and it ain’t like these other tribes were no good at it.

Refer to the part about blades of grass, when White folks start popping up everywhere like dandelions while you are losing 75% of your own folks to disease, population demographics can change somewhat.

Every time war broke out, most settlers cleared out, for good reason.

Do you live in a gated community?

On a serious note, I hate to see any part of OK turning even a little bit purple, I was thinking I would move there if Texas really does flip.

Oklahoma probably has a lot more Indians (to use a non-PC term) than Italians. Still, this re-naming of things just to be PC is a travesty.

Yes and to put things into perspective Ada only has a population of 17k or so. Get a couple of "indigenous" on the city council and this happens. Trust me Oklahoma is by far the most conservative state in the union and you can take that one to the bank.....

And what would be wrong with just having a separate day for indigenous people and keep Columbus day?

Always tit for tat, never "inclusive".
