I picked up an old field gun a few weeks ago. An old worn workhorse of a Model 12. Full choke, 30" barrel, old used, but functional. I pulled the butt plate last night, and struck gold! A 1919 Michigan hunting license. Bought by a 42 year old man from Detroit. Purchased from a Deputy Warden, in New Baldwin Michigan. $1.00 Just Friday I found a 1949 Wyoming Hunting license in the butt of a 1945/46 Savage 99 250-3000 from.Rock Springs Wyoming! $5.00 Deer,Bear, and small game. Deer coupon removed, and Bear coupon attached! First 2 licenses I've ever found, and I've pulled hundreds of butt plates over the years!! Let's hear about your butt plate mining finds!

Posted this in the Winchester shotgun collecting thread below These came out of a store purchased 1897. I have found many licenses and duck stamps in shotgun butts over the years. Most were in customers guns and they went straight back to the happy and shocked customer! 😊 I worked on a customers 1898 Krag Infantry rifle once and found a slip up paper under the barrel that was dated 1912. And said it was issued to cadet XXX at I think Missour State Univ (???). The customer said that was his great grandfather. Pretty cool find.

Always enjoyed pulling buttplates off those Schmidt-Rubins!
Coworker did find a $10 bill in a customers old single shot gun once. From the 20’s-30’s. Along with a license and duck stamp.

Cool stuff! I know I pulled another 6-8 off last night! I'll probably pull more today!! I like the license as much as the gun! Imagine that license being rolled up in the stock for 101 years! So cool......
