What would one expect for muzzle velocity from the Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr launched out of a factory Tikka tube chopped to 18”? My Magnetospeed V2 is giving me an average of 2450 for 8 rounds. Sounds a bit slooow to me.

I got 2630 from a 22" Bergara tube with factory Hornady 140's (Black 140gr HPBT). Your 2,450 sounds 50-80fps slower than what I'd expect.
Now with even more aplomb

Fresh, new barrel? Most of my Tikka barrels have been a little anemic in the velocity department.

122 rounds on the barrel. It is a sweet set-up suppressed and has no problem killing. Need to run it out to 500 to verify dope and answer my own question. Was hoping some other fruitcake had the audacity to chop or build a short creed and could share experience. Haven’t handloaded for this one yet as the Hornady ammo I bought to season the tube has been very accurate.

Sounds on par with the Barrett FC 18” I ran. 2500 FPS on the nose with that ammo.

You can't expect too much, from a stumpy barrel. Why so short?
You did not "seen" anything, you "saw" it. A "creek" has water in it, a "crick" is what you get in your neck. Liberals with guns are nothing but hypocrites.

Short is handy for suppressor use and, where I employ this rifle, a long shot is 450 yards with most being 50 to 250. Not complaining about the speed as is, just thought is was a bit slow for the combo. All of the deer and pigs I’ve shot with this have been DRT, so that isn’t a problem either.

The Hornady Precision Hunter ammo has been very accurate in every CM I've fired it through. Give your barrel 200+ rounds and then chrono it again. I suspect it will show some improvement.

Makes sense. Have you shot any of the American Whitetail ammo? I sure like the 129 Interlocks for deer. I have whacked gobs of them using the 129.

My factory Tikka 24.3” barrel came in just under 2600 avg. like said above my Tikka seems 75-100fps slow.

Couple random data points: 6.5 Creedmoor, 22" Hawk Hill, 135 Berger factory ammo 2750 fps 6.5 Creedmoor with 140 vld, 2710 fps handload Figuring 25 fps per inch, both of those seem faster than your load
6.5x47 lapua, 135 berger classic, varget 19", 2700 fps 6.5x47 lapua, 140 vld, IMR4451, 18", 2660 fps
I'd use any of the above out to around 600 yards at my elevation.

18”s ain’t a bad way to fly for that purpose for sure. Can’t help you on the factory ammo velocities as I don’t shoot much of it. Like OSU said, you should see some pick up in velocity with some use through it... My 20” Tikka CTR runs 147s in handloads at 2780 for reference.

Factory T3 barrels must be loose as they almost always are slow. Mine are......

I got an average of 2506 fps with the factory Hornady 143 ELD-x out of my Tikka CTR with a 20 in barrel.

Well I guess this factory load makes sense at 2450 from the 18” Tikka barrel. Thanks for the data points.
