I just purchased one and was curious what loads you use for whitetail deer. I live in Tennessee and longest shot will be 300 yards.

For that distance consider the 120 gr partition or the 110 accubond to ensure good expansion and an exit. I am sure a few will mention the 100 gr Barnes. https://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/257-weatherby-magnum/

For close shots of 100 yards and closer will the partition do its job?

I hunt Tennessee and use an 80 grain ttsx, factory load. Only killed about 40 with it so far. Close up or out to 300, works like a charm.
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

72-73g of R#22 with a Federal 215
100g Hornady Interlock
100g Partition shot 1/2" groups
both of these bullets killed white tails very well at 3600 fps.

For close shots of 100 yards and closer will the partition do its job? With aplomb. I'm partial to the TTSX but would have most likely used the Partition if I were to have troubles steering the TTSX.

I shoot only Barnes 100 gr. TTSX out of my .257 Wby, and have used it for whitetails, and mule deer, at ranges from inside 100 to outside 300 yards, with no problems whatsoever. Shooting the monometal bullets takes away the possibility of a bullet blowup and surface wound using softer, cup and core bullets at close range. Happened to me twice, before switching to Barnes.

Have used the 100 TSX, 100 TTSX, 100 E-Tip and 120 Partition on deer and antelope from the .257 Weatherby. The only one I had any trouble with was the TSX, which sometimes did not open much, if at all. The 120 Partition will ruin more meat than the 100 TTSX and E-Tip, but not if you put it through the ribs.

My favorite load is a 100gr Scirocco pushed to around 3600fps by H1000. Have never recovered one.

Great info. Has anyone tried the 110 grain ELD-X round from Hornady? Just asking because it is easy to purchase where I live.

Harley, I’ve made a mess of meat with 6mm/103’s around 3k at modest ranges - I’d want nothing to do with them at 257 Weatherby speeds. Other’s mileage may vary.

I’d go mono metal. I had excellent results accuracy-wise from 100 GR ETip & RL22 in my .257 WM. I’ve had great results from 90 GR GMX & 100 GR TTSX on game and accuracy wise.

Thanks again. Another question what about the 100 gr weatherby spitzers? Will they do less meat damage and still make quick kills ? I know im asking a lot of questions about this caliber, Ive always just used a 270 caliber with Remington corelokts and have always got it done.

Then why did you buy a .257 Weatherby? Ain't going to make any difference on shots out to 300 yards.
(I semi-apologize. Obviously you're a rifle loony, and RL's always hope for the magic rifle/cartridge/scope/etc. that will change their lives.)

The 257 sure drops them quick maybe a nano second faster than a 270. Monos produce less blood shot meat sometimes. RL's keep the writers busy. Just all of the misconceptions and fantasies alone keep the Hook and Bullet press going.

I used the 80gr TTSX loaded to 3700 on several critters. Mild load but accurate and absolutely deadly. Out to 300 as you describe, with the right zero, it’s simply a point and shoot. The easy button...
