The thread about Fugs guns over in the great state of Maine, and seeing a 250-3000 with crescent butt reminded me of one i had also ! I can't believe they are very common?? Heres a couple pictures of mine, not the best shape, extra holes for the pachmayer scope mount. The buttstock is also 1" longer then normal. As you can see by the serial number its not a real early rifle.

Interesting. I had an EG with somewhat higher serial # that was uncheckered. This would appear to be a factory custom. The crescent buttplates were also discontinued about the time of this rifle's serial #.

What model is your 250-3000 Don? 99A w/special features? Lettered? I have a 99C w/rifle butt, mid '20's rifle that letters as a 99C with no mention of rifle butt or checking. Numbers match. I've posted it here before and is believed to be a 99C w/special features.

There is nothing in the savage ledger for my rifle serial number! at least that is what JTC said in a factory letter. I second Roys comment that rifle is a beauty !!!!

For me personally, the scope mount on that rifle wouldn't be a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. Beautiful. Would be honored to have that en in my safe.

1" longer than normal butt stock is intriguing. How many other special order rifles got a custom LOP?

I know most here don't like the pachmayer tip off mounts, but they do return to zero when you flip them over and back. They also dont drill thru the savage markings on the top of the reciever.

Don Don, the rifle of Fug's that I showed is a 1915 rifle, so nowhere near yours. It's a Tue engraved, special order.. probably an AB grade. Not sure if he has a second crescent buttplate 250-3000 or not.

1" longer than normal butt stock is intriguing. How many other special order rifles got a custom LOP? Very few. On the early 1899's, it was a $10 fee to change the buttstock because it was a totally manual effort. For $5 you could get fancy american walnut, for $10 you could get fancy english walnut, for $10 you could get B engraving, and for $10 you could get gold plated trimmings. So it was pricey.
