As a way to avoid going bonkers because of too much close-quarters family time over the holidays, I bought a magazine that was just a collection of articles on different .264 caliber cartridges. Everybody knows that there has been a proliferation of new cartridges in the bore released over the 10 years or so. After reading too many of the articles, it was hard to keep the differences (or similarities) straight, so I prepared the following table. This is noisy data because there are lots of uncontrolled variables. Each author was doing their own thing, and had their own interpretation of a top load. Barrel lengths are not controlled for. The specific bullets being tested within a weight range might vary, and they have different bearing surfaces. (What I included in my table was the max velocity for any non-mono bullet of that weight.) So while there are lots of reasons to not take this data as unerring ballistic truth, it is nevertheless interesting to see how things shake out.

I use the 129gr in my 6.5x284 Norma, nothing has ever walked away ( white tailed deer ) from 80yrds out to 300yrds shots I have taken, you hear of deer being taken at 500+yrds with this caliber that's a little long for me !!!!!

Like you, I think the 6.5-284 data is low. I can't see why it shoots exactly the same powder charge as the 6.5-06 175 fps slower.

Getting 3075fps and .5" groups with my 24" barreled 6.5-06AI using 140g BT and H100V.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I’d like to see real life 6.5 rpm numbers added to that - for another pin point.

Where's the 256 Newton? 140 grain .264 at 2900 and change 107 years ago. My dies just arrived in the mail today. Got 200 Jamison cases, and just trying to figure out which rifle gets the new barrel. Cheers, Rex

Yep. Evidently quite a few angels can indeed dance on the head of a pin...

Don't leave out the 6.5 Remington Magnum, on the "original" efficient, short, fat case!

Thank you,
I have some of them, 6.5 Creeds, 6.5-06, 264, and 26 Nosler. I have a 99 in 243 that I want to have bored to 260. Your info is helpful. All are great cartridges!
