I recently purchased a 1941 Savage 99EG and I believe that the rear sight that is on the rifle is not the original sight. Can someone please provide a picture of what would have been the original rear sight so that I can begin my search for one. Also, I am considering installing a peep sight and need opinions on the Lyman and hopefully the Marbel peep sight.

I believe your 99EG would have originally had what is known as a flat top sporter.
There were several variations, all the same sight, different markings & risers and all will work fine. ~$50 ebay.

Tang sight options as you mention are Lyman & Marbles. These can be pricey, especially a Lyman tang with windage adjustment.
If you change to a tang sight, the rear sight may be in the way and/or you may need to change the front sight as well.

There are other tang sights by Lyman, Redfield, etc. that utilize the tang mounting holes and these also have windage adjustment and typically cost less than some other tang sights. Do your homework.

RIck, I'm thinking semi-buckhorn for 1941 EG.

If you are going to hunt with the rifle, the last picture posted above of tang sights is your best bet, in my opinion. Same money as the post and aperture type, maybe a little less, but way more adjustment options and likely won't have to buy a new front sight. Not as fragile either. Made by Redfield and Lyman.

Savage was equipping the 99RS with that sight (a Redfield 70LH). Probably the EG would have come with one if it was factory installed.

If you get a sight from Lightfoot then she is correct.
But if you intend to use it, and your eye sight isn't what it used to be it won't work.
A tang sight may not work for eyes either and still may requires removing the rear sight and changing out the front.
Another option for aged eyes is a Lightfoot scope mount. Non-invasive to the gun and clear vision at the target.

In my opinion, before you invest the time and money looking for a rear barrel sight, you should decide if you are indeed going to install some type of peep sight. If you do, the "solid" rear barrel sight will interfere with seeing the front sight. All my 99s with tang and/or receiver sights have either blanks or folding rear barrel sights.

I have a 51 EG that is missing the rear sight elevator.. Would you have one you would like to sell?

Jack is correct on the tang sight. I put one on my EG and the rear sight was in the way. Found a Lyman 16C, on the recommendation of Lightfoot, and installed it. With the tang peep sight I think it's the way to go. Two options are a good thing. The Lightfoot mount is the way to go if you need to put a scope on it.
