The only bass we have around here or small reservoirs and ponds. Our favorite had a fish kill 2 years ago, but I really want to get out to it again. Even if that one is not doing well there are others that didn't have a kill. So my question is what have you found to be the best way for you to catch spring bass? This will probably be in late May, early June.

When they just get started and water temp are still cool I have the best luck with small jigs in dark color. Brown, black, or blue football jigs or black 2” to 3” curly tails on 3/16th oz jig heads are usually good bets.

When it’s a little bit later and they start to stage for the spawn baby bass pattern Senkos fished weightless are usually a big producer. Sometimes Crawdad pattern plastics produce for us during this time too. Either way I like to fish them without a weight so I can slow down the tempo for sluggish fish.

I should point out too that I'll be most likely fishing from shore if that makes a difference.

Does the size matter in comparison to bass size. Most of the bass we used to catch there were in the 12" range, but occasional bigger.

You could throw a 6" if you would like. Zoom makes both sizes.

Plastic worms and jigs. And spinner baits too.

Never heard of the “ned rig”. Can you elaborate???

I have a 2 acre pond on my property. Right now 4” Senko worms rigged wacky style, weightless, in watermelon color are working best, fished very slowly. Wacky rigged is out fishing the same worm Texas rigged by 3:1.

Yep. RoadRunners are my go to jig 90% of the time. They definitely catch more fish for me than regular jigs.

For ponds I used a variety of stuff but it always seemed like Beetle Spins were very effective 99% of the time.

Usually yellow with the 2 black stripes or white with the red dot.

A black, chartreuse or white spinnerbait was good as well as a Texas rigged worm, just match the color to the water conditions.

For top water a Tiny Torpedo worked.

That is something I don't know. Bass fishing is new to me. What colors to what waters conditions?

Chartreuse is a good color for muddy or stained water. In semi-clear water many colors seem to work, I like the new June bug as well as the old grape and blue.. In clear water pumpkinseed, watermelon and black seem to do well.

Excellent. Thanks.

This particular pond has very clear water, but a lot of weeds by July, especially around the shore line. Another bass pond is fairly stained all season long with weeds growing 10 to 20 yards from the shore. I did try a plastic chartreuse minnow pounced on top of the weeds on the first pond and the bass went crazy for it, but that is later in the season.
