So sitting around all quaranteened and all, decided to put a new string and a peep on my old Mathews. I tied the peep around the OD groove and (thanks to the interwebs) I was able to get it tied in above and below, but it's a pain.
Why not just use a regular old string nock? Mine's all tied in. Just asking.

It is prudent to install things correctly on a bowstring. It is after all, right in front of one's eyeballs.

String thickness, lack of serving on that part of the string to help hold a nock in place, and probably will cost you a few FPS.

And the nock sets can come loose... rare, but then so are your eyes.

Good answers. Had not considered the lack of serving, but that's a fact.
I guess they could come loose alright. But then, so could the peep! Going to re-tie that OD groove!

i have used nock sets on strings for certain things on my target bows and they seem to always come loose.tieing sting too your bow stings yes it takes more time but it always works better. string to string just works better and seems more forgiving too.

I suppose I had a peep in my first compound for years that was only tied in with the OD groove. Hundreds of shot I'm sure. It never moved and never came out and I still have both eyes. It's a wonder.
Tieing them in on both sides AND in the OD grove is the way to go.
