When did Savage start putting a crown on the muzzle of their 1899s?

Depends on the model. 1899H's always had rounded crowns, as did SRC's I think. 250-3000's as well.
Don't think the 1899A/B/C or SR ever did.

I have a 1899 SR that has a crown, but it's close to the transition to a 99C. I don't have a late 1899 A, but I assumed Savage put a crown on all their barrels at one point in time.

You're right.. after WWI they all got crowns. So 1919/1920 the 1899's had crowns.
