Here's what I'm looking for. I used to backpack and Dana Design had an accessory called the Wet Rib (also a Dry Rib). It attached to the shoulder straps of your backpack. One side was semi-permanently attached and the other had a QR buckle. Now that it's Mystery Ranch, they brought it out again but is much smaller. Can you attach the Hill People Gear bags to the shoulder straps or do you have to wear it separately? I'm looking to carry a handgun up to the size of a G19/P239 when I'm hiking with it staying discreet, yet accessible.

Not sure about your particular pack, but my HPG bags have attachment points that allow them to be linked to HPG own backpacks; they appear to be generic, grim-loc, style fittings. You likely could rig something up.

Not to derail the original question but does anyone know personally if the HPG recon bag will fit a g40 with RMR and smaller light ? Or would I need the heavy recon ?

The HPG site says it will fit, with a light. Depending on what else you want to carry, you might consider upsizing though. My Recon kit bag fits a G29, spare mag, small clip knife, phone, keys and not much else.

As Oregon45 said, you should be able to attach a kit bag to most packs with the Grim-locs.

They are both the same size inside.... I have the Runners Pack, which is like RECON without the MOLLE webbing, and my G40 fits with the Streamlight attached but I don't have an optic on top...but looks like it would still fit...

I checked Eberlestock. They have a harness that will connect several of their accessory pouches to the chest straps. They're in the Accessory section.

HPG kit bag will be worn under your pack with ‘docking’ straps that attach to the shoulder straps. These place the kit bag load on the pack as opposed to the harness. You don’t have to dock the bag if you don’t want to.

It is a very nice system. The best part is undocking with the grimlock fittings takes about two second so and you can dump the pack and still have the kit bag on. That way you aren’t separated from your handgun and other gear in the bag. The harness under the pack doesn’t rub or chafe. They are a bit pricey but it is one of the few pieces of gear that I would repurchase in an instant if it got lost.

K1500 nailed it. I have the Snubbie model and carry a Ruger SP-101 with the diamond pro grips. Works great. I believe on HPG's website they say a G19 will fit this model also. My Colt CCO is just a tad big for it. Great piece of gear and you don't notice it when you're wearing a pack.
